JWG meetings discuss various issues related to the actual implementation of the cooperation in the MOU. These meeting’s are held in Malaysia and in partner countries on an alternate basis. It provides a platform for both partners to adopt a proactive role in, finding ways to improve and enhance cooperation in education. These JWG meetings are held annually, or with the participation of relevant agencies. Among the issues discussed are exchange of scholarships, exchange of information/expertise, exchange of visits and other mutually agreed cooperation.

Through these JWG meetings, the MOE has succeeded in establishing the Chair of Malay Studies at the Victoria University, Wellington (1996) and at the Beijing Foreign Studies University in Beijing, China (2001). Attachment programmes for a Malay Language teachers in China and vice versa was also successfully implemented in 2001.
